Intermountain's 5th Academy

Intermountain Fire Department begins its 5th academy in May 2008 with 29 new recruits.

Intermountain receives FEMA grant

On December 18, 2007 Intermountain Fire Department received a FEMA assistance to Firefighters grant (AFG)  in the amount of $118,069. These grant funds will be used by the department to replace aging Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and associated equipment as well as purchase additional needed SCBA's and Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) equipment.

Sixteen New Intermountain Firefighters Graduate from the 4th Academy

16 new Firefighters graduated from Intermountain Fire Departments 4th Academy. Intermountain Fire Department held a 4 month long academy totaling 340 hours to meet the California State Fire Marshal requirements for Firefighter I. Congratulations to all that graduated. Recruits showed their resolve  and commitment by attending every Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and one additional Sunday per month.

These two additional bays were a welcomed addition to the firehouse that came in July of 2007.

Intermountain 2nd Annual Fund Raiser


July 22nd 2006 - The second annual Intermountain Fund Raising Auction and dinner was a great success.   Even though the weather was hot, more than 300 people joined us to take part in the festivities.  The department grossed more than $41,000 that will go to help keep the apparatus fueled, insured and rolling to the emergency calls.  Thank you to everyone came to support us and an extra thanks the the Intermountain Hot Shots for putting on such a great event!  See the Gallery for more pictures of the event.

 

Physical Agility Tests 2006
July 15th 2006, Intermountain Fire and Rescue Department held its Physical Ability tests for those applying for our next academy.  Of those who tried, we had 21 people pass the test and make it to the next phase of the application process - the Panel Interviews.  The Panel Interviews will take place July 29th and 30th.  For more pictures of the Physical Ability Tests, click here.

 

2006 Forth of July First Aid Station
Intermountain Fire and Rescue were happy to provide a first aid station at Ramona's 2006 4th of July Fire Works.  We are happy to report there was only one slightly scrapped knee due to a small skateboard mishap.

 

Congratulations to Bud Sullins and Fred D'Acquisto
Intermountain Fire Department congratulates Firefighter Bud Sullins for being hired by California Department of Forestry as a Seasonal Firefighter. Bud has been with Intermountain since January 2005 and is a graduate of our June 2005 academy. He will be working on CDF Engine 3386 out of Witch Creek. 

Fred D'Acquisto also graduated from our June 2005 academy and has been with Intermountain since January 2005.  Fred has been hired by the US Forestry Service and will be working on a Helitack stationed at Ramona Airport.


Intermountain Attends 2006 Julian Wildland Training
May 20th 2006,
Intermountain Fire and Rescue personnel joined firefighters from all over San Diego County to participate in wildland training.  Both new Intermountain Brush trucks BR-95 and BR-295 along with eight of our firefighters.  See the Training Gallery for more pictures of the event.

 

Intermountain Staffs First Aid Booth for 2006 Ramona Rodeo
May 19th-21st 2006,
Intermountain Fire and Rescue personnel were proud to run the First Aid station at this years Ramona Rodeo.  Our fire fighters provided some minor first aid including a few band aids, ice packs and even removed a live Gopher Snake from the Rodeo grounds.  Thank you to the Rodeo Committee for allowing us to attend, we hope to be there next year.  See the Events Gallery for more pictures of the event.

 

Twelve New Intermountain Firefighters Graduate from the 3rd Academy
Friday May 12th 2006, Intermountain gets 12 new firefighters ready to start standing shifts at Station 95.  After a long 9 month academy these firefighters were rewarded with brand new shinny badges personally pinned on by Chief Coleman.   Graduation was held at the Firehouse Museum in down town San Diego and attended by nearly 100 friends and family.  Congratulations Academy #3!

Intermountain & Ramona Firefighters team up to “GIVE BURNS THE BOOT”
Firefighters from the Intermountain and Ramona Fire departments working together on May 3rd, 2006 raised $8,216.00 for the San Diego Burn Institutes annual “Give Burns the Boot” Drive.

Ramona Garden Club plants trees at Intermountain Station 95
Friday April 28, 2006 Ramona Garden Club donated and planted two 15 gallon Oak trees in front of Intermountain Fire and Rescue Department Station 95. Pictured left to right Jose Jacinto, Firefighter Fred D’Acquisto, Firefighter Mike Bailey, co-chair Julia Jacinto, Vice President Ramona Valencia, President Patricia Frederick and Secretary Teri Schmidt. The Garden Club meets at the Ramona Library on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at noon.

 

2nd Annual Invitational Dinner and Auction Announced
Our Second Annual Invitational Dinner and Auction will be held on July 22, 2006 from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at the Ramona Fairgrounds Pavilion 434 Aqua Lane - Ramona.  Our event will be held at the Ramona Fairgrounds Pavilion.  Last years event had over 280 local residents, this year we expect to have near 350 attendees.  Our theme is "A Night In The Islands" - we will be serving a "Kamaaina Luau" menu - catered by The Picnic People.  We will have a floor show performed by the "Halou Hula O'Ka'co".  Tickets are $40.00 each.

Memorial for Larry Lewis
Sunday April 2nd, 2006 Intermountain Fire and Rescue Department participated in the memorial for retired San Diego City Fire Department Engineer Clarence “Larry” Lewis. Larry was a 26 year veteran of the fire service and also served as the Volunteer Fire Chief for Julian Fire Department for 15 years. The memorial was attended by more than 100 guests, Intermountain Firefighters, San Diego City Firefighters, a flyover by County Copter 1 and featured a presentation by the San Diego Firefighters Emerald Society Pipes and Drums.  

 

Intermountain provides first aid at cutting event
Sunday April 2nd, 2006 Intermountain Fire and Rescue Department was on scene to provide emergency medical aid, if needed, at a California High School Rodeo Association Cutting competition held at Mountain Valley Ranch. March 24th, 2006 - Intermountain received a $25,000.00 grant from the Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit that will be used to drill our own water well. Since the station opening in June 2005 our gracious neighbor Mr. Ken Wood has been supplying our water needs from his well. In 2004 Barona, Viejas and Sycuan awarded us a grant covering one third of the building costs of Station 95. In 2005 we received $80,000.00 for an apparatus bay extension.  

   

 

Intermountain and CDF present Burn Institute with a Check at Soroptimists Breakfast
March 24th, 2006 - Intermountain Fire and Rescue Department Chief Cary Coleman and Ramona CDF Captain Greg Griswold present Cindy Rutter from the Burn Institute with a $1000.00 check from proceeds raised by the Soroptimists sales of the local Firefighters calendar.

Intermountain Board President John York accepts a check at the Soroptimists International of Ramona 2006 Awards breakfast.

Intermountain Provides First Aid Station at Creek Hollow Ranch
March 24th, 2006 - Intermountain Fire and Rescue Department Firefighters Fred D’Acquisto, Ryan Creighton and Michael Bailey were present for Creek Hollow Ranch’s Annual Spring Fling horse show Friday March 24th to provide medical aid in the event of an emergency. The firefighters are shown with Bethany Wallace and 2 year old American Warmblood filly Minuet.

Scout Troop 365 Visits Station 95
February, 1st 2006.  Attending Intermountain Fire and Rescue Departments February 1st board meeting were members of Boy Scout Troop 635. The Scouts obtained credit in public service studies which will aid them in obtaining a higher rank. 

 

Chief Coleman selected for Ramona's Citizen of the Year Award
January, 20th 2006.  Our very own Fire Chief Cary "Dusty" Coleman was selected by the Chamber of Commerce as Ramona's Citizen of the year.  Seven people were nominated and the winner was announced at the Chambers annual Installation and Awards banquet held at the Barona Casino Golf Events Center.  In addition to a plaque and a certificate signed by County Board of Supervisors Diane Jacob, Chief Coleman also received a flag that was flow over the capitol. 

 

Intermountain Receives a $15,000 grant match from Golden Eagle Farms
December 21st, 2005. Intermountain Fire Chief Cary Coleman and President John York accept a $15,000 check from Golden Eagle Ranch Owner, Larry Mabee to match against the $15,000 awarded to Intermountain by the San Diego Fire Foundation for refurbishment of three of their engines.

 

Intermountain Fire and Rescue Receives a $17,000 grant
Frank H. Ault, Board Chairman of the San Diego Regional Fire and Emergency Services Foundation, hands a $17,000 grant to Intermountain Fire and Rescue Department Chief Cary Coleman on Wednesday, Dec.7 2005 during a grant award ceremony at Ramona's Sizzler.  The Foundation funds grants for many volunteer fire agencies in the county.  These funds will be used for new medical equipment bags and painting for our brush engines.

 

Cub Scouts Visit Station 95
Tiger Cub Scout Den 4 of Pack 630 toured the Intermountain Fire and Rescue Department Station 95 on Thursday Nov.10.  Giving the tour were Firefighters Ryan Creighton, Jason Brand and Loren Manoram.   Anyone interested in a tour of Station 95 should send an e-mail to info@intermountainfire.org

 

Benefit Barrel Race - November 13th, 2005
On Sunday November 13, 2005 Ted and Anita Gentry's High Valley Ranch hosted a benefit barrel race to raise money for Intermountain Fire and Rescue Department.  Winners were awarded prizes generously donated by sponsors Elstons Hay and Grain, Coldwell Bankers Vicky Farrar, Ramona Sentinel and Allstate Insurance.  Also donating their time and services were Ted Gentry, Greg Garner Grading, Rath Webster and Jimmy Hernandez from Packard's and Packard's Plus.  This beautiful facility saw riders from as far away as Central California competing for cash, fine leather headstalls and breast collars, hand made tail wraps, splint boots and more.  All entrants in the Pee Wee division received a backpack courtesy of Elstons Hay and Grain.  Five of Intermountain's firefighters were on scene during the event to provide aid, which thankfully was not needed.  The Intermountain Fire and Rescue Fund Raising committee was responsible for putting this event together, watch the this web site for information regarding upcoming events that they are planning.  All profits from this event help to keep Intermountain Fire and Rescue functioning and responding to emergencies.


Intermountain Fire Academy Gets Auto Extrication Training

Sunday, October 29th 2005 - The current Intermountain Fire Academy spends the day learning how to do auto extrication on 5 vehicles generously donated by Ramona Auto Dismantlers and the use of the training ground donated by One Stop Equipment Rental  Vehicle accidents make up a large percentage of the calls for ours and most other Fire Departments.  Sundays class was designed to give our recruits real world training in methods of Auto Extrication, they received hands on practice using the Jaws of Life, metal saws, lifting air bags, hydraulic rams, rescue saws and cutting shears.  See the Gallery for more pictures of the event.


Memorial Service for Fire Fighter and Marine Brian Dunlap
Sadly, Intermountain lost one of our former firefighters in Iraq on September 24th - Brian Dunlap.  An Intermountain crew of 8 took Engine 95 and the Chief's vehicle to  join the 75 other apparatus at his memorial service on Camp Pendleton - October 12, 2005.  Brian was an Intermountain Fire Fighter for 2 years before moving on to CDF, and then the US Marines.  Intermountain will never forget Brian and our prayers and thoughts go to his family.
